History

The Cle Elum Men's Retreat began around 1985 under the direction of Garth Smith. Its purpose was to build men's faith in Christ and to nurture relationships among men from churches across Washington State. It is one of the oldest continuous gatherings of members of the churches of Christ in the Pacific Northwest.

For the first ten to fifteen years, the retreat took place across Interstate 90 from Camp Koinonia. It was moved to Delano Bay Christian Camp for two years, but was returned to the Cle Elum area in order to facilitate participation by men from the east side of the state. In the early years, food was supplied and prepared by some of the men in attendance. Having the Camp Koinonia staff prepare the food since moving to that location has allowed participants to focus their time more on learning, relaxing, and building relationships.
